Little History of Galway

Galway has a long and fascinating history. Today, it is home to over 250,000 people and plays host to over a million tourists per year, many coming to admire the scenery and to learn about the culture and history of this beautiful place. But it has not always been so tranquil and The Little History of Galway will look at the struggles of the earliest people - the arrival of the Normans and their conquest of the city and the siege of Galway by the feared Oliver Cromwell and his army.It will also examine pivotal moments such as the Penal Laws, the Famine and the War of Independence and how they affected the local people. The book will also tell the story of the writers, artists and thinkers that have called Galway home, as well as the local people who have worked hard over generations to make Galway the beautiful and welcoming place that it is today.
