The new Splattervin set remembers the Beatles as they metamorphosed from dung to jewel, caught live as they crossed the Pacific during the most manic phase of their early touring years: 1964 to 66. Side One documents Philadelphia in September 1964, recorded at the height of US Beatlemania; 'Twist & Shout', 'All My Loving' and 'She Loves You' were then delivered at speed, barely audible over the swooning, stadium-amped crowd. Side Two jumps to Tokyo's Budokan Hall in June 1966, weeks before they would cease touring altogether; 'Paperback Writer', 'Nowhere Man' and 'Yesterday' audibly figure a band already outgrowing the stage, only a few years in, though still at their best.
