Katzengold is a collection of songs that never strayed far from their first spark. The distance between demo and final version was sometimes measured in hours rather than months.Sometimes as little as two. Many of the acoustic guitar tracks that first captured the songs became the very takes that made the album. Some of the scratch vocals survived too, carrying a spontaneity that couldn’t be recreated once the red light had been on for too long.The record began with a stack of lyrics from Kris Ragnstam, a songwriter who has been part of the independent music infrastructure since the early 2000s. Over the years, his work has taken him from a Japanese Billboard #1 placement to extensive touring alongside artists such as Debbie Harry and Mumford & Sons, among many others. For Katzengold, those years of experience are distilled into songs that feel remarkably immediate and unforced.Recorded as a trio, the album embraces the chemistry of three people in a room responding to each other in real time. Missed notes, uneven phrasing, and happy accidents were often left untouched, not out of necessity, but because they added character, tension, and flavor.There was no attempt to chase perfection. The goal was to capture the moment when a song still feels alive and slightly unpredictable.
